Prescription Tab > Dispensing Drugs

Dispensing Drugs:
Once you have added the drugs to the prescription tab of an appointment, you have the option to change the status of the drugs to Deferred, Rejected, or Prescription Required, as well as specify 'Other Authorization' for each drug before generating the prescription & consent form and dispensing the drugs. In some cases you will only need to generate the prescription and/or consent form and dispensing drugs is not required (ie: Medical Cannabis).

To Dispense:
> Using the checkboxes on the left side of the drug chart, select the drugs you wish you dispense.
> Hit the 'Dispense' button from the row of buttons above the drugs.
- You will be presented with a popup window where you can enter all the dispensing details for each drug
.
(If you are tracking inventory in the drug database this information will already be entered for you.)

(Each drug may have a different set of required fields, depending on how the drug is set-up on the advanced in the drug database.)
(You can turn drug inventory and dispensing details off altogether if you do not wish to track those details in the system.)
- You will also have the opportunity to enter the observation (if required), or you can leave it blank and enter it later.
> Then hit the
'Dispense' button. (If re-authentication is required you will need to enter your password.)
- If the drugs require an observation and you choose to enter it later, the drug will appear in the list in red, as a reminder to go back in and enter the observation. (Observation tracking is also an option.)

Editing/Adding Dispensing Details:
- You can drill into each drug individually anytime if you wish to add, review or edit the dispensing details, instructions or observation.
Dispensing Details can be added/edited before or after the drug is dispensed. (Mitte is not editable after dispensing.)
Dispensing Details will be saved after un-dispensing.

To Defer, Reject or specify Prescription Required:
> Using the checkboxes on the left side of the drug chart, select the drugs you wish to defer, reject or specify prescription required and hit the appropriate button.
- These drugs will now be recorded and appear in the
Consent Form & Courtesy Letter reports as so.

Other Authorization:
Drugs can be set up with Medical Directives and/or sometimes a patient will bring their own prescription (Patient Provided Prescription).

Medical Directives:
- If your drugs are
configured with medical directives, you will see MD ON in the Other Authorization column.
- You can turn usage OFF if you do now wish to use the medical directive
(ie: the patient has a script from their family doctor) by checking on the drug(s), hitting the 'Other Authorization' button and selecting 'NONE / MD OFF'
- You can turn usage back on by checking on the drug(s), hitting the 'Other Authorization' button and selecting 'Use Medical Directive (MD ON)'
- If you have your own prescribing authority, or
authorization is required to use the medical directive and you are not authorized, usage will be turned off automatically upon generating the prescription.

Patient Provided Prescription:
- If your patient brings their own prescription you can specify this by checking on the drug(s), hitting the 'Other Authorization' button and selecting 'Patient Script'
